The Cure!!

Have you had one of those dark moments in your life??? Those days when you thought you were some kind of a misfit?? Sadness and melancholy wrapped in your every move?? For those of you who know what Im talking about, know who was and still is the musical embassador of the dark side (and we are not talking about Darth Vader!!): Robert Smith.

He is the leader of one of the most influential dark bands on earth, The Cure, they have mastered the art of making music in such a special way that makes us feel that little something that probably we didnt even know existed in us, or that happiness you may feel after knowing that life not always has a happy ending, which makes you really appreciate those lovely moments in our existance.

Last Monday, september 6th I had the chance to see them playing live in the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. The third of a three-day tour in Mexico City. First of all, It was very difficult to get the tickets, for the first 2 concerts they were sold in two hours, breaking the mexican record of ticket selling, that was held by the Backstreet Boys of two hours and fortyfive minutes (according to "Milenio" newspaper, september 3th, 04) and I bet the third one was the same. So I need to thank my boss Teacher Armando for paying us in a debit card which I used to buy mine during the pre-sale for the third date. Thanx Teacher.

I got there a little late, like twenty minutes after the show started, you know it's 2 or 3 hours you need to arrive to Mexico City from here. They were playing "Pictures of you" when I arrived, (you may have heard that song, it's the one that is in the HP commercials on TV!!), the energy was flowing at very high rates when thousands of people sang the song.

They played a set that was a very nice mix of new and old material, it was a delight for the hard core fans and for the new ones. Songs we all love, were beautifully crafted in a way that few bands can. Classics such as "Lovecats","Boys don't cry" and "Why can't I be You" lifted a harmony that created a unique atmosphere that will always be in our hearts and minds.

Some of the most memorable songs, along with the ones mentioned above, were "The walk", "Friday, Im in love", "Taking off", "A forest", "Before three", "alt.end", "Lullaby", "Lovesong", "Let's go to bed". Not to mention the ones that were sung during the four encores the made!!

Im still thinking on Robert's last words on stage after saying "muchas, muchas, muchas, gracias" to thousands, he said "we'll see you soon!!!" and the crowd immediately cheered for a good 6 or 7 minutes. The only problem I saw was the people around me, some kind of so-called rich kids who were there just for their record, they didnt like the music, they didnt know the lyrics! Shame on them!!!

Still under the buzz, it was shopping time! It's the first time I see unofficial products with very good quality, thing I found out after spending $500 in official merchandise!! Anyways, it was a very good concert just topped by U2's Popmart in '97.
